Last Week In Photography - Cat People

I had been contacted by this delightful couple who wanted to get a session with their cats.

The cats are accustomed to being walked outside and we all, cats and people, had a great morning at Ann Arbor’s County Farm Park.

Having been previously owned by cats I also enjoyed the feline company.

Last Week In Photography - On A Roll With Senior Sessions

Being blessed with more great weather the flurry of requests for outdoor senior sessions continues.

This young man and I met at one of my favorite locations, Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park for a one hour photo session.

Great morning, great young man.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Session

Piggybacking on the run of good fall weather and color change we met in Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside park for a session including a quick stop at my nearby studio for a yearbook photo.

Last Week In Photography - Princess In The Park

I’ve photographed this cutie every year starting at two and now at four years old.

Every year she is dressed in a different outfit cycling from princess through military camouflage outfits and this year, back to princess mode.

As always the camera loves her!

Last Week In Photography - In Studio Family Session

Saturday morning started with a great family coming into my studio for a session.

Outfit changes and Spider man poses was the agenda of the day!

Interesting multi national family with a blend of language abilities and my one word of Japanese and rudimentary Spanish was no help but fun to add to the mix.

They loved the results and we’re discussing more sessions at some point.

Last Week In Photography - Shameless Self Promotion

In a slow economy I felt it was time to blow my own horn and put this post out in the universe.

With, at last count, 2,386 sessions booked, 53 five star Google reviews, 5 five star Yelp reviews, a BBB A+ rating, fully licensed and insured and more gear than I admit to have purchased there is not much I don’t photograph (with the notable exception of weddings.. Bless the long suffering wedding photographers.. cat herding is not my forte’)

What I HAVE photographed are families and children, couples, portraits, headshot sessions, seniors, pets and animals, real estate listings as well as landscape and fine art available in my metal print wall art on line store as well as a series of high end coffee table books currently in the development stage. (More on that very soon to come).

I have a large and quite complete studio space in my home and regularly photograph on location having gone as far as the west coast of the state for corporate interiors as well as corporate work locally.

I’ve often been told to raise my prices.. by clients! I’m trying to hold fast to make my services affordable for the average consumer as the cost of living is climbing.

THERE!!! I warned you about the horn blowing.

The link to my website is here… while in the site there are links to all the pages I’ve mentioned as well as a studio tour all under the Portfolio tab. Please don’t hesitate to use the Contact section as well.

Last Week In Photography - Blended Family Session

It was a nice, sunny afternoon at the family’s property and proves that a blended family is still a wonderful family by any standards.

I’m part of one so I know that to be a fact.

Great group, great session!

Last Week In Photography - Sunset In Saugatuck XI

This is the 11th year of a pilgrimage to Oval Beach in Saugatuck, Michigan to visit the site where my late wife’s ashes are spread.

As those of you who follow these posts know, September 13 is our anniversary and I’ve been going there yearly to visit and photograph the sunset.

This year I managed to capture more sunset photos and also took some portrait shots of some of the local residents and visitors to this charming lakeside city. I also got to re-connect with and take photographs of some locals I see all too infrequently.

I’m also marketing a coffee table book including many Saugatuck photos and will soon be developing one unique to that area.

As in past years, dune erosion has carried the area where her ashes were originally spread far towards the lake itself… time and people move on.

Last Week In Photography - Saturday Senior Session

The heat wave had broken and it was a chilly Saturday morning when I met with this young man and his father in Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park.

They had made an earlier stop the same morning at my studio for a quick yearbook photo and now we were on location for the remainder of the session.

We photographed around a busy farmers market and had a very enjoyable time capturing these and more images to document his high school journey.

Last Week In Photography - Head Shot Session - Again

Last week’s blog post highlighted a head shot session and this week’s does the same.

Many people are getting ready for the fall business climate and the need for a current head shot is high on the list of things to do.

This woman needed an updated shot and our session went quickly and enjoyably.

Last Week In Photography - Headshot Session

As summer progresses towards fall, the need for business photographs has continued with this gentleman who needed an updated headshot.

Finding someone’s personality in a 20-30 minute time frame is always a challenge as, truthfully, there is an element of variation on a theme when doing basic headshot sessions.

Many people are not used to being in front of the camera and it’s my job to leave them with an enjoyable experience. This was the case here, as we had a great session and since he was under a time constraint it went efficiently and enjoyably.

Last Week In Photography - Studio Head Shot Session

Upon receiving a request from a woman who needed an updated head shot for upcoming business opportunities, we set an appointment for her to come into my studio.

The morning of the session she arrived full of energy and with a couple of outfit options.

The session went very well as we exchanged life stories… Another pleased client!

Last Week In Photography - Senior Session

It was a temperate Thursday morning as the heat and humidity of the past few weeks had moved on when I met this young man and his mother to spend a relaxing hour at a local Saline, Michigan park to photograph another graduation milestone moment in time.

Last Week In Photography - Time To Schedule Sessions

This young lady was absolutely captivating and captured the attention of many people who “liked” the post in which she appeared.

This is from a family session in my studio and now that the year is over half gone it would be good to plan ahead as the late summer and early fall sessions will start to pile up and this is a reminder that those moments in time can never be recaptured once gone.

Family, senior, portrait, couples, pet and head shot sessions should be a conversation topic before it becomes a last minute scramble.

Here, in this post, are a sample of photographs captured in past sessions.

Last Week In Photography - Acting Head Shot Session

This young woman just finished her theater degree at Ypsilanti’s Eastern Michigan University and is on her way to live in New York City with her brother.. Lucky her!

This was her first photo shoot ever and I was very happy to give her a start. Here are a few of the ones we did.

I have wonderful memories of my time in (very) little theater in NYC….Break a leg!!!!!!!!

Last Week In Photography - Same Day Service

Yes, 95% of my projects are shot and delivered the same day.

NO.. I typically do not take same day appointments or walk ins as I set appointments days, weeks or months ahead.

In this case this gentleman was in a huge bind and as it was still early in the day when I had nothing else scheduled he came over and I photographed his head shots and delivered them to him in a couple of hours.

It’s all about customer service!

Last Week In Photography - Head Shots

A couple needed head shots, him for work and her as she was furthering her education… A little non traditional floor fan work to add some fun.

Last Week In Photography - Owned By Your "Pet"

Categorized as pet owners, those of you who know the truth admit the real relationship between a pet and owner. You work, keep up a home, feed, groom, walk outside in heat and cold, wet and dry and let’s not forget those vet bills and yet you’re called “owners” when, in fact, that roommate you spoil runs the show!

I know…. having been owned by a number of dogs and cats over the years, there’s a huge payback in comfort, amusement and loyalty along with the tumbleweed sized drifting fuzzballs and occasional surprise “gifts” often discovered always at inopportune times.

It’s not for nothing one of my cats was named Peeve…. and I lost count of how many times I was left in the dust staring at the south end of a northbound dog just as I needed to leave for work.

Regardless, we love them.

Thank you, all cats, for confirming the earth is not flat as if it was, you’d have knocked everything off it by now.

Bottom line, I photograph pets and people, in and out of the studio… just saying.

Last Week In Photography - Links To Sales Sites

This is a new addition to the Metal Print and Etsy item shop. Clicking on the photo will display it full size in a new window.

I've been a bit lax in promoting both sites so here are a couple of web links for you to visit in what you laughingly call your spare time.

In the next few months I'll be posting some gallery dates so you can see these in large format and in person. It's something I've been working towards.

Last Week In Photography - Grad Session In Unfamiliar Waters

As I usually photograph university graduates at local campuses such as Ypsilanti’s Eastern Michigan University or Ann Arbor’s University of Michigan it was a different experience to drive to East Lansing for this grad’s session on the campus of Michigan State University.

Her father and I followed her from location to location photographically documenting her journey to her degree.

She’ll be looking for her next career step closer to home here in the Ypsi/Ann Arbor area.
