Last Week In Photography - Family Session And A Proposal In The Park

Once again we stretched a remarkably warm fall season and this family met with me in a local park to document another year of growth with the two boys.

The boys were wearing hoodies made for them by their grandmother. Kudos to grandma.

The couple also highlighted here were re-enacting a play proposal a year ago and this time, the young woman was surprised to find out this time it was real.

It was a great moment and fun to share.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Session, Bubble Machine And New Baby Update

During a senior session at Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park we encountered a bubble machine set up and running for an event in the area and made use of it… was fun and unexpected.

Also a woman I had photographed before came over to my back yard and studio for a quick photograph of her older son and new baby. She’s leaving the area and wanted one more quick session with me before her departure.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Sessions - New And Added

Stretching out the last of the good weather I photographed a young woman at Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park then ended up at my studio for some additional shots.

Also, while looking at her photos, I discovered some from a previous blog post and am including them here.

Last week In Photography - Senior Season

It’s definitely that time of year.

The demand for senior and yearbook photos is always heavy at this time and I’ve been filling every weekend with sessions.

Two favorite locations were used here… The University of Michigan Law Quad and Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park.

As always, it’s fun to see the students in this transitional period of their lives.

Last Week In Photography - Grad Photos Part 2 And Headshots

In April of this year I photographed this young woman to document her bachelor’s degree. She then proceeded to earn her master’s and we met in the studio again to document her achievement.

Okay, she might not be MY daughter but we had a great time and I’m really proud of her.

Then I had a gentleman come in for updated headshots.. also shown here.

Last Week In Photography - Puppy People

This couple just adopted a Pug puppy and wanted to have a record of them and their new pup at this stage of the new relationship.

I’m more of a large dog guy (at one point I lived in a two room fifth floor walk up apartment with another human, a cat, two Afghan Hounds and a rescued Great Dane).

Having said that this is an adorable puppy and is very soft to the touch so, yes.. definitely cuddly.

We met at a local park and I’m sharing the results here.

Last Week In Photography - Portrait And Head Shot Sessions

There are three sessions in the studio to share in this blog post.

One was a young man who wanted portraits photographed. If memory serves, it was mom driven - nice slice of time. I included a few wider view photos of the session in progress.

The others were driven by the need for updated business head shots. Both went well.

Last Week In Photography - Sunset In Saugatuck IX

This is the ninth year of a pilgrimage to Oval Beach in Saugatuck, Michigan to visit site where my late wife’s ashes are spread.

September 13 is our anniversary and I’ve been going there yearly to visit and photograph the sunset.

This year I missed the dramatic cloud formations by a day but still managed to capture a few good sunset photos and also took some portrait shots of some of the local residents and visitors to this charming lakeside city.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Session

I met with this young man and his family, including their dog, at one of my favorite locations - Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park.

After encountering some technical difficulties the family demonstrated amazing patience and good humor when we had to re-shoot virtually all of the session… awards to them for understanding and participating.

People like this are a gift.

Last Week In Photography - A Birthday And Model Session

Two studio sessions for this post.

The young woman came in to get photos taken to celebrate her 19th birthday dressed in a cheerful primary color matched only by her personality.

Next was the installer of my new security system. We got to talking and he came back for a male model based session. I even created a mock magazine cover for him.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Sessions Are Still In Full Swing

Summer is still in force and the weather remains warm enough to schedule outdoor senior sessions.

We met at a favorite location, Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park for a great session, one in which I got the chance to be creative with a great model and then some Photoshop fun as well.

Last Week In Photography - Head Shots By The Dozen

This week’s title may be a bit confusing since there is one person highlighted here so I’ll explain.

The woman shown in this post was an individual who came in the studio for her head shot session and from whom I received permission to share her images.

I also photographed a group from a local Ypsilanti office totaling 12 people who came in over the course of three days to be photographed for their corporate website. I did not ask for releases so at some point I may post a link once they appear on their site. All went well and I thank them for supporting a local Ypsilanti photo business.

Last Week In Photography - Head Shot Session

Basic head shots photographed in the studio are mostly variations on a theme. For the most part the format is vertical and nothing fancy in the background to distract from the subject. It’s a different story for actors and models and also for those done outside so coming up with something a bit different is always a challenge.

This young woman needed a basic series of photographs for upcoming employment needs. It was a fun session.

Last Week In Photography - Another Summer Family Session In The Park

I was contacted through my Google listing by this family and after a rain delay we reset our session and were rewarded by a wonderful sunny day in a local park.

Photographing younger kids is always interesting as you catch them in those moments between their moments of zoomies! Older sis was a great help and the whole family came together for a great session.

Last Week In Photography - Photos For A New Business

The woman shown here is an amazing cook.. I know that because a few years ago I photographed some totally yummy food she prepared in my kitchen. A great shoot since we got to eat much of the subject matter!

She’s now running a cleaning service and needed some headshots and action photos so we photographed the headshots in the studio and then moved upstairs to show her in a work environment.

My home and studio are always clean for my own needs as well as having customers in… After this session it was cleaner :-)

Last Week In Photography - Senior Session

Another sunny summer morning found us in one of my favorite local locations, Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park.

It’s always fun photographing high school seniors as they get ready for the next step in life. This session with a great graduate to be was another confirmation of how much I enjoy what I do.

Last Week In Photography - Maternity Session

While carefully watching the weather I met this couple in a local park for a late afternoon session.

We were lucky to have periods of clearing overcast and made use of the sun to record this slice of time.

I also played around with a background change in Photoshop… not masterful but fun as you can see in the composite.

Last Week In Photography - Family Session

Blessed lately with mostly good weather this family took advantage of a sunny day to meet me in a local park to capture a slice in time with their two girls.

Nice day, nice family, nice session to share here.

Last Week In Photography - Long Planned Family Get Together

This extended family had not been in the same place at the same time for a while and the planned get together finally happened on a nice day in a lakeside park.

Photographing nine people, two of them youngsters, is a bit tricky but this went off without a hitch due to the great family dynamics.

Last Week In Photography - Horse People And A Construction Group

People who own horses are a breed unto themselves. It takes dedication and the commitment necessary to have a large animal be a part of your life. Boarding, medical care, feeding and the time spent emotionally supporting and bonding with an animal that large is a full time job.

Manny is a Percheron. Originally bred as war horses, Percherons today are often seen as draft horses and when standing next to Manny I’m always in awe as to his size. They’re generally 64 to 68 inches tall and often upwards of 2,000 pounds. It’s a good thing he’s a very gentle giant.

I’ve know Manny’s owners for years and have documented their relationship with him a number of times. He’s getting older and it was a beautiful day so we met to get another session done.

Later in the week I met with a construction group, one I’ve trusted with not only my kitchen remodel but with the huge job of restoring my studio after a massive flood when a storm caused a two foot sewage backup and the place was trashed.

We met at Riverside Park in Ypsilanti to photograph the business owner and his crew.
