Last Week In Photography - Still Posting Warm Weather Sessions

This is the third yearly session with this family and, once again, this little charmer lived up to expectations!

Her previous wonder woman costume was a blog post favorite and this year with two looks was even better.

From princess to military she was superb at both.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Session And Head Shots

Those of you following these blog posts know I have a huge backlog of outside session photos to post but this week I want to share the last of the senior sessions and a headshot session in my studio.

The young man shown here was photographed at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business from which he’s graduating. He is personable and bright.. a good combination for a great future.

The gentleman shown in the headshot section is a return customer updating his files as it’s been a few years since our last session. He’s a super guy and it was good to reconnect.

Last Week In Photography - More Warm Weather Sessions

I was so jammed this fall that I still have a store of outside sessions to post here.. this is another one!

This great family returned for another fall session at Ann Arbor’s County Farm Park.

The boys have grown and it’s fun to be part of a family story.

Last Week In Photography - The Year In Retrospect

2023 went by in a flash for me!

I’m grateful for the wonderful people who supported my business and on this, literally the eve of a new year, I’m excited and also a bit apprehensive at the changes yet to come.

The header photo is from my metal print collection (more about that in next week’s blog post) and I also launched an Etsy shop featuring items printed with my sunset series carried over from the metal print gallery, also to be featured next week.

Sadly, as it seems to be every year, there is much pain in the world and I wish that magic wand I envision were real so I could magically solve every problem.

Barring that I wish you all a happy new year for 2024 filled with wonder, love, health and good fortune.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Session

With Christmas day literally arriving momentarily I’m still milking the last of the warm weather photo shoots for these posts.

It was a very busy senior season and this very sharp (and very tall) young man and I met at Ypsilanti’s Depot town and Riverside park for an hour to capture these photos, then making a short trip to his church to finish with a change to his scout uniform.. a very influential part of his life.

Last Week In Photography - Another Warm Weather Senior Session

I’m sharing another of the warm weather senior sessions, this one at Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park with a quick trip to my studio for some yearbook photos.

For a while I was photographing seven day weeks and one or two sessions daily so these posts are a look back at the fall weather.

This young man is a football player and looks every bit the part! Another fun session.

Last Week In Photography - Senior And Head Shot Sessions

I’ve been sharing some of the last of the good weather sessions.

As the fall season for senior sessions progressed we got lucky with weather cooperating to give us the opportunity to come up with some like the one here.

I photographed this young man on site at Ann Arbor’s Huron High School on a chilly day with clouds and sun mixed as the rain held off. We then drove to my studio for some yearbook photos.

Also I am including some head shot photo results from a couple of business sessions, also in my studio.

This is another of the series of senior sessions while we were enjoying good weather.

We met at Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park for this young man’s session. He’s a good guy with a great future.

Last Week In Photography - Couple In The Pumpkin Patch

It was a nice breezy late afternoon at a local farm pumpkin field and apple orchard when I met this delightful couple to photograph them and their two dogs.

Both of them are pickup truck and dog people and this was the making for a country music song minus the sad ending!

During some of the last of the really good weather this young woman and I met at Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park for a photo session.

Great weather, great subject and a nice Farmers Market morning all came together for a fun session.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Session Part Two

Last week’s blog post was part one of a two part session.

These photos were taken at the University of Michigan Law Quad on a chilly day. Again, this young woman’s mother is a contemporary of my daughter and I’ve known her since she was a teen. It’s been fun to photograph HER daughter.

Last Week In Photography - Senior Session Part One

This Senior’s mother is a contemporary of my daughter and it was fun to photographer HER daughter.

We had plans to do a second session (which is now in line to be posted soon).

This was one of the last warm days and part of the shoot was in a meadow that was mosquito central.. Part of the Ann Arbor Arboretum.

She was a trooper and we both survived the afternoon with a minimum of bites.

Last Week In Photography - Back To Senior Sessions

It’s been a while since I posted since I’ve been going from famine to feast.

September was scary slow and then the realization that time was passing and senior sessions and yearbook photos were due hit the parental radar and I was photographing back to back sessions.

I’m just digging myself out now and back to sharing some of those sessions, this one being taken at one of my favorite local settings, Ypsilanti’s Depot Town and Riverside Park.

Last Week In Photography - On Location Senior and Portrait Session

It was a chilly morning at Depot Town and Riverside Park in Ypsilanti, MI where I met with this young woman for a senior and portrait session. Between her cap and gown plus a borrowed leather jacket she survived the brisk temperature until the sun finally warmed us.

She was a natural in front of the camera making this another fun session!

Last Week In Photography - Sunset In Saugatuck X

This is the 10th year of a pilgrimage to Oval Beach in Saugatuck, Michigan to visit the site where my late wife’s ashes are spread.

As those of you who follow these posts know, September 13 is our anniversary and I’ve been going there yearly to visit and photograph the sunset.

This year I managed to capture a few good sunset photos and also took some portrait shots of some of the local residents and visitors to this charming lakeside city. Interestingly, I was recognized by a few people on the beach and also got to re-connect with and take photographs of some fellow photographers… people I see all too rarely.

One takeaway is the dune erosion has carried the area where her ashes were originally spread far towards the lake itself… time and people move on.

Last Week In Photography - Latest Family Senior Session

I’ve visited this family at their property in the country to photograph them together as well as two previous senior sessions and again to photograph this young woman, the last of the “kids” to graduate high school.

It’s a major turning point for the parents as the previous two, a son and another daughter, just left to begin their college educations.

As you can see here, they’re a musical family and, again, I got to photograph a senior with a favorite instrument.

Last Week In Photography - Getting Silly

This client came into the studio for a head shot session and shared the fact that his company wanted not only standard shots but some of him acting “silly” as they had a fun side to their website.

I was interesting as he really didn’t know how to approach the task so we just joked around and winged it.

All in all a fun session in more ways than one.

Last Week In Photography - Headshots For A Cause

Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is a very rare genetic connective tissue disorder characterized by the abnormal development of bone in areas of the body where bone is not normally present.

This session was to photograph a woman who is being honored as a supporter of the organization formed to support people who are affected by this condition and to educate and advocate for research and potential treatment. Currently, there is no cure for FOP.

Here is a link to the IFOPA Website: https://www.ifopa.org/ which will open in a separate window.

I’ve known this woman for many years as well as someone in my extended family who was diagnosed with FOP as a child so it was a distinct pleasure to photograph her.

Last Week In Photography - Website Development

The image above is one of a number of header photos from my website’s home page.

Early on when I started this iteration of my photography business I set up a website consisting of photos I had taken of friends and family. As time went on these were for the most part replaced with actual images from customers, all with permission.

I liked the navigation but was very disappointed with the way the vertical and horizontal images displayed so went looking for a different template… found one but now the navigation was terrible, resulting in a reduced rate at which visitors stayed on the site. You probably know the three line “hamburger” menu.. awful…

FINALLY I have been able to combine a better navigation with tabs and the ability to display vertical and horizontal photos side by side.

Due to narrow phone screens the old navigation remains, although improved. On tablets?? Don’t know as I don’t have one.. maybe viewers here can tell me.

This is a rare blog post with no photos but by clicking on this link you will be able to navigate the portfolio options to see not only some wonderful people but also be taken to my Metal Print Sales site.

Last Week In Photography - Spontaneous Moments Inside/Outside

Unplanned is sometimes best, particularly in these two settings.

I had a head shot session during which this young woman helped my subject with his clothing choices and hair options.

When we were finished I got her in front of the camera with no preparations as to hair or makeup and her natural charm just shines through.

Later I was, again with no real plan, photographing some flowers in my newly set up outdoor portrait space when a welcome visitor made use of the blooms on the Russian Sage. Three quick handheld shots and the moment was gone.
